Majic 105.7
The Challenge
The existing logo was outdated and lacked the fresh appeal the station desired. Majic 105.7 needed a brand identity that reflected both its connection to Cleveland and its timeless music. The goal was to create a design that felt contemporary but still paid homage to the station’s legacy. It was important to highlight the station’s role as “the heartbeat of Cleveland’s Rock 'n' Roll.”
Creative Strategy
I developed three logo concepts, each offering a unique approach. The winning design combined the essence of Cleveland’s iconic skyline with a visual nod to the music industry through soundwaves. The final logo features:
- Guitar Pick Icon: Symbolizing Cleveland’s musical heritage, the guitar pick doubles as a play button, reinforcing the station's connection to music and entertainment.
- Cleveland Skyline & Soundwaves: The soundwaves flowing through the skyline represent the station’s deep roots in the city and its role in delivering classic hits.
- Bold Typography: The clean, modern font ensures the logo stands out in a crowded media landscape while maintaining its readability across different platforms.
Execution
Once the concept was approved, I developed a full brand identity guide for Majic 105.7. This guide included usage guidelines, color schemes, and variations for different applications. The new logo was designed for flexibility, working across digital platforms, print, and on-air branding. Additionally, I introduced a holiday variation of the logo, incorporating festive elements while retaining the core design features.
Results
The new logo has been a hit, giving Majic 105.7 a fresh, modern look that resonates with both longtime listeners and new audiences. It effectively communicates the station’s connection to Cleveland’s rich musical history while positioning it as a forward-thinking, dynamic brand. The updated brand identity has allowed Majic 105.7 to stand out in a competitive radio market, strengthening its visual presence across all channels.
